Oto Furukawa
Born in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1973.
From 2005 to 2009, she lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she worked for a local Japanese publishing company. During that time, she gained extensive experience reporting and writing about Malaysian life and culture. She became deeply fascinated by Malaysia’s rich culinary traditions, shaped by its diverse ethnic communities.
Today, she works as an editor, writer, and researcher of Malaysian food culture, authoring books, giving cultural lectures, and hosting cooking events as well as providing recipes.
Her publications include Beloved Local Eateries of Malaysia (Chikyu no Arukikata / currently available as a Kindle edition), and she also conducted on-site research and writing for Chikyu no Arukikata: Malaysia (Diamond Inc.).
